Tragic Christmas Eve Fire Claims Syracuse Student’s Life

A 21-year-old college student died on Christmas Eve after a fire engulfed her family’s mansion in Needham, Massachusetts, authorities confirmed. Kayla Corrigan, a senior at Syracuse University, was inside the $4 million residence when flames broke out early in the morning. Two other adults managed to escape unharmed.

Fire Breaks Out in Attached Garage

Investigators said the blaze likely started in the home’s attached garage. Fire crews arrived around 5 a.m., but the fire spread rapidly, forcing them to pull back due to its intensity. Officials later described the damage as catastrophic.

“We haven’t determined the cause yet, but tragedies like this are most common in winter months,” Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Jon Davine said. He reminded residents to maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and practice emergency escape plans.
