Millions of people, not only from the Sates but beyond, watched the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Among the rest, the bishop\u2019s sermon captured the attention of many by addressing topics that shocked listeners at such an even\n\n\n\n

During the sermon she delivered, Bishop Mariann Budde directly addressed President Donald Trump with a few requests.\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet me make one final plea, Mr. President,\u201d the bishop said in the latter part of her 15-minute sermon. \u201cMillions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God.\u201d\n\n\n\n

She urged Trump to have mercy on the people who fear for their future. Saying this, she appeared to have glanced at the president.\"Ezoic\"\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives,\u201d referring to the concerns of the LGBTQIA+ community regarding Trump\u2019s administration.\n\n\n\n

In her sermon, she addressed some of the executive orders Trump signed. It included \u201crecognizing that women are biologically distinct from men.\u201d Also, the one that declared a national emergency at the southern border of the country, and several others focused on immigration, including one aimed at ending birthright citizenship.\"Ezoic\"\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they \u2013 they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.\u201d\n\n\n\n

Bishop Budde has been critical of Trump in the past.\n\n\n\n

In 2020, when Trump posed with a Bible outside St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church after law enforcement dispersed racial justice protesters with chemical agents, the bishop wrote: \u201cEverything he has said and done is to inflame violence\u2026 We need moral leadership, and he\u2019s done everything to divide us.\u201d\"Ezoic\"\n\n\n\n

Further, during the sermon in question, the bishop added: \u201cI ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, she added. \u201cFor we were all once strangers in this land.\u201d\n\n\n\n

Asked what he thought of the bishop\u2019s sermon, President Trump said he \u201cdidn\u2019t think it was a good service.\u201d\n\n\n\n

Republican U.S. Representative Mike Collins from Georgia commented the bishop\u2019s service on the social media. He wrote, \u201cThe person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list.\u201d\n\n\n\n
