{"id":5226,"date":"2024-10-22T21:24:32","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T21:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sciencesandnatures.com\/?p=5226"},"modified":"2024-10-22T21:24:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T21:24:33","slug":"celebrated-country-music-singer-dies-at-79-after-parkinsons-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sciencesandnatures.com\/celebrated-country-music-singer-dies-at-79-after-parkinsons-battle\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrated country music singer, dies at 79 after Parkinson\u2019s battle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Richard \u201cKinky\u201d Friedman, beloved singer and satirist, passed away at 79 in late June at his Texas home.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Kinky first gained recognition in the early 1970s by forming the satirical country band Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Their hits included \u201cThey Ain\u2019t Makin\u2019 Jews Like Jesus Anymore\u201d and \u201cGet Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>Though the band\u2019s run was brief, he continued his musical journey with a solo album in 1974 and a two-year tour with Bob Dylan.\n\n\n\n</p><p>In addition to his music career, Kinky pursued politics, running for governor in 2006 against Ricky Perry.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Though he finished fourth, his campaign drew significant media attention.\n\n\n\n</p><p>He also sought the Democratic nomination for agriculture commissioner in 2010 and 2014, albeit unsuccessfully.\n\n\n\n</p><p>A longtime friend, Clive Hattersley, fondly remembered \n\n\n\n</p><p>Kinky as \u201can extraordinary communicator who could evoke deep emotions, whether through tears or laughter.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>Hattersley also revealed that Kinky had been battling Parkinson\u2019s disease.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Throughout his career, Kinky released 18 albums,with his final work, \u201cCircus of Life,\u201d released in 2018.\n\n\n\n</p><p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"</p><div class='\"mh-excerpt\"'><p>Richard \u201cKinky\u201d Friedman, beloved singer and satirist, passed away at 79 in late June at his Texas home.
