On July 14, days after\u00a0Jacoby Jones\u00a0turned 40, the\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0Champion was found dead in his home.\n\n\n\n The superstar NFL player, who was also known for his fancy footwork on the TV show Dancing with the Stars, is remembered for his presence that could \u201cbrighten any dark day,\u201d and on the field, for leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 2013 Super Bowl victory.\n\n\n\n Keep reading to learn about the tragic death of the player, who\u2019s called a \u201cfootball hero.\u201d\n\n\n\n Former NFL receiver Jacoby Jones, whose 108-yard kickoff return in 2013 remains the longest touchdown in Super Bowl history, was found dead in his home on Sunday, July 14.\n\n\n\n In his NFL career, 2007 to 2015, he played for the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers, and made several huge plays for the Ravens in their last Super Bowl title.\n\n\n\n It was that same series he made history with a record-breaking 108-yard kick return touchdown, the longest in Super Bowl history, leading the Ravens to a 34-31 victory over the 49ers, marking San Francisco\u2019s first-ever Super Bowl defeat.\n\n\n\n The former Texans wide receiver \u2013 a third-round draft pick in 2007 \u2013 became the first player in Super Bowl history to record both a receiving touchdown and a return touchdown.\n\n\n\n On July 14, the Texans, Jones\u2019 team from 2007 to 2011, announced his death on social media.\n\n\n\n https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FHoustonTexans%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0XciHHrQtkUbu4b3F6xxp5b21WSpYUiPtdYPAuY5mUL3mJ1FYmddhW8JoSYmS2uXql&show_text=true&width=500\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jacoby Jones. His charisma, joy and love created a one-of-a-kind presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day,\u201d the team writes in a Facebook post on July 14.\n\n\n\n In a statement, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta shares his memories of the player he calls a \u201cfootball hero.\u201d\n\n\n\n \u201cI remember standing next to him at the Super Bowl, hugging him after the game and enjoying the moment with he and his mom. Jacoby will go down in history as a champion and celebrated in Baltimore as a football hero.\u201d He continues, \u201cI will always cherish his smile and infectious personality and the joy that he brought to his city. My condolences to his family.\u201d\n\n\n\n Recalling his \u201cwarmth and effervescent personality,\u201d head coach John Harbaugh says, \u201cI loved Jacoby Jones. We all did. His spirit, enthusiasm and love for people were powerful. He was a light.\u201d He continues, \u201cMy favorite Jacoby personal moment was every time I saw his smiling face full of Joy. He was always in a great mood\u2026Big Moe, I\u2019ll miss u soooo much! I\u2019ll miss ur jokes! I\u2019ll miss u calling me Lil Moe. #RIPJJ.\u201d\n\n\n\n Among the many tributes is one from Torrey Smith, who played the Super Bowl XLVII game with Jones.\n\n\n\n He shares on X, \u201cbrother! I thank God for the memories and your impact on this world. You were 1 of 1 ! Your play on the field and jokes will live on forever!\u201d Referring to the star\u2019s mother and his young son Jacoby Jr., Smith continues, \u201cWe have Momma Jones a Lil Coby\u2019s back for life! This one hurt me man! We are going to miss you!\u201d\n\n\n\n Speaking only in a statement, Jones\u2019 family writes, \u201cWe are deeply saddened to share that Jacoby Jones, a beloved former Ravens football player from New Orleans and a proud graduate of a historically Black college has passed away at the age of 40. We want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts and support you have shown us during this challenging time. Your ongoing support and respecting our privacy means a lot to us.\u201d\n\n\n\n Mickey Clemons Jr., one of Jones\u2019 teammates from Marion Abramson High school, tells WDSU News, \u201cYou got his back. He got your back. We not leaving any man behind. That was his motto,\u201d said the former footballer. \u201cI am him. He would always say, \u2018I am him.\u2019 He\u2019s probably laughing at me now. But his legacy will always go on here,\u201d said Clemons.\n\n\n\n Another one of his old team members, Derek Patterson, tells the New Orleans-based outlet that his friend called him before he died.\n\n\n\n \u201cI remember seeing Jacoby12 calling my phone. I said, \u2018Ima hit him back.\u2019 I know he\u2019s mad at me. Because when I don\u2019t answer, he gets mad at me,\u201d Patterson said, adding that he hadn\u2019t known it would be the last call he received from his dear friend.\n\n\n\n The man explains the next morning, he received a call from his son, who told him Jones was dead.\n\n\n\n \u201cYou always wish you could do more. Or say more. That\u2019s what\u2019s eating me up. Make sure you pick up.
