After Trump\u2019s pitch, Harris then essentially repeats the same claim\n\n\n\n<p>According to the video, Trump\u2019s pledge came during a stump speech in Las Vegas on June 9, while Harris\u2019 promise to eliminate taxes on tips came during her speech in Vegas on Saturday.\n\n\n\n</p><p>WATCH:\n\n\n\n</p><p>In the three-and-a-half years she\u2019s been President Joe Biden\u2019s second-in-command, Harris has never once discussed the idea of eliminating taxes on tips that service workers make, leading to a heap of criticism online, with the hashtag #CopyCatKamala spreading on the X platform.\n\n\n\n</p><p>\u201cSo, this is the first time I\u2019ve said this. And, for those hotel workers and people that get tips, you\u2019re going to be very happy,\u201d Trump announced during his Vegas rally. \u201cBecause when I get to the office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips\u2014people making tips.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>Tips are described as \u201cdiscretionary (optional or extra) payments determined by a customer that employees receive from customers,\u201d according to the Internal Revenue Service\u2019s (IRS) website.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Workers may be paid in cash, via credit or debit card, or in the form of \u201ctip amounts received from other employees paid out through tip pools\u201d or \u201ctip splitting.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>Advertisement\n\n\n\n</p><p>The IRS&nbsp;<a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.irs.gov%5C/businesses%5C/small-businesses-self-employed%5C/tip-recordkeeping-and-reporting%5C%22" target='\"_blank\"' rel='\"noreferrer' noopener>notes&nbsp;that \u201call cash and non-cash tips\u201d an employee receives are \u201cincome and are subject to Federal income taxes\u201d:\n\n\n\n<p><em>All cash and non-cash tips received by an employee are income and subject to federal income taxes. All cash tips received by an employee in any calendar month are subject to social security and Medicare taxes and must be reported to the employer. If the total tips received by the employee during a single calendar month by a single employer are less than $20, then these tips are not required to be reported, and taxes are not required to be withheld. Cash tips include tips received from customers, charged tips (for example, credit and debit card charges) distributed to the employee by the employee\u2019s employers, and tips received from other employees under any tip-sharing arrangement. Tips also include tips received by both directly and indirectly tipped employees.\n\n\n\n<p>At the rally, Trump declared: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to do it. And, we\u2019re going to do that right away, first thing in the office.
