This role not only catapulted his career but also led him to take a step back from the entertainment industry to focus on his personal life.\n\n\n\n<p>Selleck met Mack at the peak of his fame when she was performing in the West End musical&nbsp;<em>Cats&nbsp;in London. The pair married in 1987, shortly after Selleck decided to leave&nbsp;<em>Magnum, P.I.&nbsp;to prioritize starting a family and leading a quieter life on a ranch in Ventura, California.\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a fairly private person,\u201d Selleck shared with&nbsp;People&nbsp;in 2020. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family. The musical not only marked a significant achievement in her career but also brought her and Selleck together. In 1983, while filming&nbsp;<em>Lassiter&nbsp;in London, Selleck frequently attended&nbsp;<em>Cats&nbsp;performances \u2014 a habit that puzzled his co-star Jane Seymour. \u201cHe kept telling me how great&nbsp;<em>Cats&nbsp;was,\u201d Seymour told PEOPLE in 1984. \u201cI thought it was good, but I couldn\u2019t see going back a dozen times.\u201d\n\n\n\n<p>After a dinner date arranged by Mack\u2019s agent, their relationship blossomed, and Mack eventually moved to the U.S. to be with Selleck. On August 7, 1987, the couple married in a secret ceremony at a Victorian-style chapel near Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The wedding was so private that even the minister was unaware of their true identities, expecting to marry a \u201cTom Jenkins\u201d and a \u201cSuzie Mark.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>The couple welcomed their daughter, Hannah Margaret Selleck, on December 16, 1988. Raising Hannah on their family ranch, Mack and Selleck believed it provided the best environment for her to grow up. \u201cWe both thought it was the best environment for her to grow up,\u201d Mack told People in 2012.\n\n\n\n</p><p>Selleck added that their rural lifestyle positively influenced Hannah\u2019s maturity. Following Hannah\u2019s birth, Selleck and Mack retreated from the spotlight to focus on their family, settling on a 65-acre ranch in Ventura, California. The ranch, once a working avocado farm, became a sanctuary for the family. \u201cMy relationships and my ranch keep me sane,\u201d Selleck told People in 2020. \u201cI do grunt work and I make the rounds. I like watching things grow. It\u2019s a retreat.\u201d\n\n\n\n</p><p>Mack, who appeared in a few episodes of&nbsp;<em>Magnum, P.I., as well as&nbsp;<em>Frasier&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>ER, has supported Selleck\u2019s decision to maintain a balance between work and family life.
