Power Dynamics Inside the Trump Marriage
Who really holds the power in Donald and Melania Trump’s marriage has long sparked debate. Now, Eric Trump offers his perspective in his new memoir, Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation. According to him, Melania isn’t afraid to take charge—even over one of the world’s most powerful men.
A Baptism Turns into a Photo Mishap
In his book, Eric recalls a family moment that unfolded earlier this year during the christening of his children, Luke and Carolina. The ceremony took place in the East Room of the White House, beneath the iconic portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Donald and Melania attended the event, celebrating their grandchildren’s baptism.
After the ceremony, Donald lifted his grandson for a photo. But things quickly went sideways when the baby, still wet from baptism, began to cry. As Donald hesitated, Melania stepped in.

“Donald, You Run the Country”
Eric describes his stepmother as calm but firm. Seeing the photo op crumble, Melania reportedly looked at her husband and said, “Donald, you run the country.” Then she took the crying baby into her arms—ending the brief chaos with authority.
The moment, Eric suggests, shows who truly takes charge when things go awry.
Melania’s History of Taking the Lead
This isn’t the first time Melania has shown she can stand her ground. She once told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016 that she “bossed Donald around” even early in their relationship. When the two met at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998, she refused to give him her number.
Instead, she said, “You give me yours, and I’ll call you.” Her reason? She wanted to see whether he’d offer a business or personal line. Donald, eager to impress, gave her every number he had—office, home, and Mar-a-Lago.
A Glimpse Inside the Trump Dynamic
Eric’s memoir promises an “unfiltered look” at life inside the Trump family, blending political drama with personal stories. And in this one, Melania once again proves that when it comes to control—she often wears the trousers.
